A big fuss over 5%

Wired news have an article about using Biodiesel (basically vegetable oil) in diesel engines. It all sounds very good until you get to the bit about ...will begin using a blend of diesel fuel that includes 5 percent biodiesel. .

Yes that's 5%. Surely 5% of the fuel can't have that much of an effect on the environment. How can 5% of the diesel make it 'smell better' ?

Oh well, it's a good start I guess.
